Field:
The Carnival Association organizes the Carnival i Aalborg and other cultural
events in Aalborg, which in their contents are based on the
principles and the history of carnival or in other ways related to
the changing seasons.
The Carnival Association actively participates in larger cultural
joint projects and endeavours to cooperate with other cultural organisations.
The Association aims to diffuse knowledge about the history of Carnival,
its global character and local distinctions through exhibits,
lectures and other informative activities.
Celebration of spring:
Carnival is a celebration of life, spring and fantasy despite
religious and political differences. The carnival is a medium for creative folk culture, where the participants
get the opportunity to
break with the role of
being merely spectators and instead engage passionately in the rhythmic and
musical display. The face becomes the canvas and the body the dancing
sculpture.
Paint your face - dance the streets
The Carnival Association does not censor fantasy or modes of
expression. There must be room for everyone wanting to express
themselves through singing, dancing, rhythms, figures or images. However,
the association will censor logos and banners containing political
or commercial messages from the parade.
Economy:
It is crucial that the Carnival and the Carnival Association are not
controlled by economic factors.
The various events are mainly funded through membership payments,
donations, benefits and contributions of more practical nature from businesses, funds and local authorities. However, it is not possible
to render services, in the matter of advertising in the carnival
programme, poster or parade, to the businesses, authorities etc, who
contribute to the association. Contributions of any kind does not
allow the donor to have a say in the Carnival Association's
activities - neither throughout the year nor during the Carnival in
May.
The board handles issues in connection with commercial exploitation
based on the above.
Passed on the annual general meeting,
October 5th 2004
